Real estate rental website RadPad has a unique idea, use bad data to provide the best user experience. Sounds counterintuitive, but it is not such a radical idea. In May of 2015, CEO of RadPad, Jonathan Eppers wrote an interesting blog/release on how the company is using bad data to develop their search algorithm called PadRank.

PadRank basically follows this philosophy “Bad data = a bad user experience = frustration and stress = lack of trust in RadPad = failing our customers. Accurate data = more informed decision making = trust = happier renters = higher quality leads = happier landlords”. Unsurprising to most, but clearly not followed by the industry. In essence, PadRank employs relevance and places landlords & data partners more favourably.

The company expected that PadRank would continue to improve itself over time, stating “our goal being able to say that 99.99% of all listings on RadPad are 100% accurate.”
