In a live event on October 4, 2016, Google announced a new piece of mobile hardware, clearly aimed at the iPhone 7, called Pixel. Looking remarkably like an iPhone, the smartphone runs a new version of the company’s Allo product called Google Assistant. Which is an intelligent assistant, built on machine learning and designed to provide easy access to Google products with integrated 3rd party Apps.
Pixel comes in 2 sizes, 5″ and 5.5″, and in 3 colours, Black, White and a limited edition Blue. Google claims the phone’s camera is the best on the market today.
The phone starts at $649 and is available unlocked, for pre-order in Australia, US, Germany, Canada & the UK.
In the same event, Google released a collection of new devices, DayDream View, Google Home and Google Wifi. DayDream View is a new version Virtual Reality headset made from a lightweight, breathable fabric. The headset connects wirelessly to Google Pixel and inserts into the viewer via a front facing slot. The headset comes with a controller to permit seamless and ease of use for venturing VR applications.
Google Home is a “smart home” product that is almost identical to Amazon’s Echo (Alexa). Google states that the product permits users to get answers from Google, stream music, and manage tasks.
Google Wifi is a home network product that employs the use of small multiple routers to create a mesh-like wifi network in the home. It is based on the technology currently available by Ereo and Plume Pods. Google claims that Google WiFi is intelligent, being able to select the clearest channel and fastest band for devices. The product comes with an App management console to easily monitor and control the network.
